Casa Serena

A Goan retreat in lime, cane and monsoon light.

Location
Assagao, Goa
Year
2023
Area
7,600 sq.ft

The Story

Casa Serena resists the villa cliché. No white walls, no infinity edge posturing — instead, hand-troweled lime in the colour of unbaked clay, cane screens that filter the afternoon into stripes, and a courtyard where rain is treated as a guest of honour.

Designer's Notes

We recorded the monsoon on site for two weeks before drawing anything. The roof geometry is an acoustic instrument — rain lands in three distinct pitches across the courtyard, veranda and pool.

— Anaya Kapoor, Principal

It rains differently in this house. I know how strange that sounds. Come sit in the courtyard in July.
